Gharo is an ancient town located in Sindh. In 2017, it was home to around 2.000 families. Besides being a traditional town, Gharo is also known for its wind power plant, large water park, and bazaar. Read on to discover more about Gharo Sindh.
Gharo is an ancient city in Sindh
Archaeological findings at Gharo show that this ancient city was once enclosed by a stone and mud wall. The city was divided into two parts, the eastern and western parts. A fortified stone wall was located in the center of the city. Inside the eastern portion of the citadel were the ruins of a mosque, whose inscription dates from 727 AD, 16 years after the conquest of Sindh. These remains were discovered in 1960. Other ruins have been discovered inside and outside the citadel.
Bhanbhore is an ancient city, which dates back to the 1st century BC. It was ruled by the Muslims from the 8th to the 13th century, and it contains ruins of the city’s original architecture. The ruins of the city contain a mosque that is approximately seven centuries old, and the city was once home to many important Islamic religious and cultural institutions. The ruins are considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site and are located on the N-5 national highway between Karachi and Dhabeji.
Archeological discoveries of Gharo have revealed that the ancient city was an important port city. The ancient city was connected to the rest of the Scytho-Parthian empire and international traders in the Indian Ocean. Archeological evidence has indicated that the citadel was built on a half-submerged anchorage.
The ancient city is located in the Sindh province of Pakistan, approximately seven hundred and twenty-four kilometers south of the capital city of Islamabad. The city is located on the left bank of the Indus River.

It has wind power plant
The wind resource assessment for Gharo in Sindh province was performed using the NRG data acquisition system. The data shows that the wind speed is predominantly easterly. It can be used to plan a wind farm project for the future. During the study, the wind speed was measured at three heights. The wind speed direction was found to be mostly easterly for almost all of the five years.
The k and c parameters have been calculated to determine the wind power prospective of Gharo. The k and c parameters vary with the height and time of the measurement. A k parameter between one and two indicates a low wind speed while a trend upwards indicates a high wind speed. In this study, the average k and c parameters at 10 and 50 m were 2.066 and 4.18 m/s, respectively. Tables 4 and 5 show the average wind speed and wind frequency distribution in Gharo.
The Jhimpir Wind Corridor is an area with wind resources in southwest Sindh province. It has the potential to generate up to 50,000MW of electricity. In fact, there are already 12 wind power projects in the area. One of these is run by Zorlu Energy Pakistan. It has built a wind turbine farm on a 25-km dirt road. The turbines are three-bladed and are mounted on 85-metre towers.
The project is the result of a thorough geotechnical study. It is a renewable energy and does not contribute to any pollution. However, there is a potential for noise and soil pollution. Despite the potential for pollution, the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency has approved the project. The wind power plant is expected to be operational by the third quarter of this year, and will have a 20-year lifespan.
It has solar farm
The Gharo Sindh solar power project uses state-of-the-art solar technology to generate clean energy. Located in Badin, Sindh, the project uses single axis tracking technology to capture the sun’s rays and convert them to electricity. The solar power project is being developed by a private company, Gharo Solar Pvt. Ltd. The scope of the project includes the installation of 154,224 photovoltaic modules with a capacity of 325 watts. China-based company Phono Solar will provide the PV modules and Sungrow Power Supply Co Ltd will provide the inverters.
The Sindh Province is set to hold Pakistan’s first tariff-based solar auction, with 50 megawatts of solar capacity available. The Sindh Province has a huge energy gap and rolling power blackouts. The Gharo Sindh solar farm is an important step in addressing this issue.
The project aims to increase solar power production in Sindh Province and increase access to electricity. The project is divided into four components, the Utility-Scale Solar component aims to identify publicly owned solar parks and to select private sector developers through a solar auction. The second component, the Solar Home System component, provides solar electricity to residential customers.
China’s investment in renewable energy infrastructure is already beginning to show results in Pakistan. The investment is a part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which aims to overhaul the country’s energy and transport systems. The Gharo-Jhimpir wind corridor in Sindh province is part of the project and encompasses six hundred and eighty acres of land. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the region has the potential to generate 11,000 MW of electricity through wind power alone.
The FMO has invested in the project through Capacity Development Funds. The organization will provide technical expertise and other support to the client to mitigate the environmental and social risks. The project will benefit almost 190,000 people in the area. As a result, it will create jobs in the area and encourage local development.
