Attack on Liberty Chowk in 2009
The attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team bus at the Liberty Chowk Lahore in March 2009 captured the attention of the world. The team bus was attacked by militants using grenades and sophisticated weapons. It left six Sri Lankan cricket team members and six Pakistani policemen dead.
Pakistan police killed four Lashkar-e-Jhangvi terrorists in Lahore in 2009. Four of them were suspected of participating in the 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team. Another team of militants attacked a crime investigation department in Manawan, Lahore. During the encounter, the CID returned fire, killing three of the terrorists.

The explosion left a 15-foot-deep crater on the road and severely damaged the ISI building and several flats that housed police officers. According to the police, the terrorists used at least 125 kilograms of explosives in the attack.

The group organised the attack as a protest against the Pakistan government’s decision to grant MFN status to India. The attack caused widespread chaos and death, and the LeJ’s leadership was killed in an ‘encounter’ with the counter-terrorism department.
Location of Azadi Chowk in Gujranwala
Azadi Chowk is located near the Badshahi Mosque. It is also known as Minar-e-Pakistan Chowk, and is one of the major entry points in the city. It is normally quite crowded and busy, as it is one of the main places where people come and go from the city.
The protesters started their march from Liberty Chowk in Lahore on October 28 and are marching to Islamabad. The protest is being led by Imran Khan, who has said that this is a historic day for Pakistan. He has said that he is fighting for freedom and justice for every Pakistani.
The PTI has announced that the fifth day of the march will start from Chand Da Qila in Gujranwala. The convoy is expected to reach the city by 11 am. On Monday, the PTI chairman addressed marchers and then left for Lahore. He later told the crowds that he plans to file a Rs10 billion defamation suit against the CEC.
A PTI stalwart, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, has also arrived in Gujranwala to address the crowd. Qureshi said that the government was trying to make the march look negative. The PTI Chairman said that he would defeat Nawaz Sharif in his constituency.
