Sindh lead the points table in the seventh round of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy
Pakistan National T20, a T20 international cricket tournament played in Pakistan, enters its seventh round on Tuesday, and the top two teams will qualify for the final. The seventh round is an important phase in the tournament because both teams will try to win maximum points. In the last two seasons, Sindh did not finish in the top three, and a win against Balochistan was enough for Sindh to move to the top.
Central Punjab, who are currently third in the points table, have won five of their six matches, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have won two. Central Punjab have lost one match, a 211-run defeat to Khyber PakhtunkhwA. They will try to take advantage of the poor form of Khyber Pakhtunkhw, which has not been able to score any runs. Among the run scorers for Sindh this edition are Abdullah Shafique, who scored a maiden double century and Tayyab Tahir, who hit two successive centuries.
Earlier, Sindh were considered the favourites for the match. However, Mubasir and Hammad knocked them out in the previous round. Since then, they have moved up a spot in the points table and need to win the next match to claim 16 points.
Sindh are batting well and will be boosted by the return of fast bowler Shahnawaz Dahani. Dahani made his debut in the T20I format against Bangladesh and has been prolific in the first-class competition. Akbar-ur-Rehman is a good batsman who has made over 400 runs in six matches.
The run rate is putting pressure on Punjab, but the Northern team is also not letting up. They are still one match away from securing a home win against Sindh. With four rounds remaining, Northern can only lose one match in the eight-round.
Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan are the teams in the top three. The top four teams will meet in the final five-day event in the National Stadium. The winner will bag a PKR10 million prize money and the runners-up get PKR5m.
Earlier in the season, Southern Punjab arrived in Karachi at the top of the table and lost it to Sindh. However, they managed to play a draw against Balochistan and did not drop below second place. In the overall standings, they enjoy a five-point lead over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Northern have two losses so far. In their previous match, they were defeated by Central Punjab. Nauman Ali took 11 wickets and scored his highest ever innings figures in this tournament. Sindh’s captain Salman Ali Agha has taken seventeen wickets in his last two matches and has a good bowling attack. The match will be broadcasted on the PCB YouTube channel.
After four rounds, Sindh have emerged as the stronger side. Their win against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa yesterday was an emphatic victory, thanks to Abrar Ahmed, the mystery spinner. The 24-year-old Abrar blended leg-breaks and sly googlies in an impressive spell of bowling. Sindh, however, had to bat for most of the match to ensure victory.
