November is a month of darkness. Its 1st day falls on a Wednesday or a Thursday 28.5% of the time. As a result, November can feel very gloomy. However, there are some ways to brighten the month. You can participate in events, such as World Kindness Day, International Men’s Day, and Remembrance Day.
World Kindness Day
World Kindness Day in November is a great time to practice kindness. Being kind to others is a powerful way to reduce stress and build healthy relationships. Studies have shown that people who are constantly kind to others produce 23% less cortisol than those who are not. People who practice kindness also age at a slower pace.
World Kindness Day is an annual holiday celebrated in many countries to highlight the importance of being kind to others. This day highlights the amazing work that people, organisations, and communities around the world do every day. There are many ways to celebrate this wonderful day, including using ‘kindness cards’ to reward those who are kind to others.
World Kindness Day began in 1998 and is now recognized worldwide. Many events are held to spread kindness, such as concerts and dance mobs. Organizers also distribute kindness cards and encourage people to do random acts of kindness. Organizers aim to make World Kindness Day an official UN holiday someday.
Throughout history, people have celebrated kindness as an important trait. It is a universal quality that bridges gaps and breaks down barriers between people. Human kindness can help heal the crannies of gender, race, caste, and other prejudices. Increasing awareness of kindness in our world has triggered organizations and poems to promote its importance.
Children’s Day
While international children’s day is celebrated on June 1 each year, there are celebrations held throughout the year. In addition, the United Nations (UN) also designates a Universal Children’s Day, which falls on 20 November. But regardless of the official holiday, it’s always a good idea to celebrate children every day. After all, it’s in their best interest to protect them and help them achieve their full potential.
This day is a wonderful opportunity for children to participate in various activities, including horse riding, face painting, and a petting zoo. There are also workshops that teach children about child rights and planting trees. These activities are usually free of charge, and children look forward to them all year long.
International Children’s Day was first proclaimed in Geneva during the 1925 World Conference on Child Welfare. In many Communist countries, the holiday is held on 1 June, but in other countries, the date is often shifted to November 20. The UN General Assembly’s declaration of the rights of the child makes 20 November a world-wide holiday. Some countries also observe Children’s Week, which occurs every November.
International Men’s Day
International Men’s Day is a day set aside to promote equality for men. The day is celebrated globally, bringing together men and women of all genders to celebrate men and boys. The UK celebrations focus on gender inclusion, recognising that men and boys experience various inequalities due to a combination of factors.
The day has six objectives. The first is to promote positive male role models and encourage men to be themselves. Other objectives include building a better world for men by promoting gender equality, addressing discrimination, and celebrating men’s positive contributions. It is also an opportunity to discuss gender relations, gender equality, and the issues that affect men’s health.
International Men’s Day is celebrated in around 80 countries worldwide. Typically, events include sports competitions, health fairs, prayer meetings, and panel discussions on men’s issues. Some events also feature music performances and tributes to iconic male role models. Other events promote volunteer opportunities. To celebrate the day, take a few minutes to find a charity or nonprofit organization that supports men and boys.
International Men’s Day is observed on the 19th of November. While it may not be as popular as International Women’s Day, it bears equal importance in promoting awareness and improving the lives of men. Besides the traditional events, such as sporting events and cultural events, November also sees an increase in “Movember” – a month-long global community of fundraisers focusing on men’s health.
Remembrance Day
The second Sunday of November, also known as Armistice Day, commemorates the end of World War One. It is the national day of remembrance. Each year, millions of red poppies are sold in the lead up to the day. On November 11th, a two minute silence is observed at 11am in remembrance of those who gave their lives in wars.
The poem “Ode to Remembrance” was written in 1914 by Laurence Binyon, originally to commemorate British soldiers who died on the Western Front. It has since been recited as a universal tribute to all soldiers who died in the line of duty. The first poppy to bloom on the battlefields was a Flanders poppy. In Canada, people observe a moment of silence on 11/11/11.
In many countries, the public observes a two-minute moment of silence on November 11 to remember the departed soldiers of World War I. The minute of silence is meant to pay tribute to the memory of the 20 million men and women who died in the conflict. The commemorative events are usually marked by the laying of wreaths at memorials to the dead of war, including veterans.
Epilepsy Awareness Month
Did you know that Epilepsy Awareness Month is a national initiative? The Epilepsy Foundation and CDC are partnering on an educational program to spread the word about the condition. The aim of the program is to help individuals understand how to recognize seizures, what to do if they happen, and how to respond to them.
Throughout the month, the epilepsy community holds various events to raise awareness and funds. These events are a great way to meet other people who are affected by epilepsy. Depending on your community, there may be multiple events throughout the year. By getting involved in more than one, you can increase your chances of raising funds and awareness for the cause.
If you don’t want to hold a fundraising event, you can create a poster with facts about epilepsy and encourage others to share the information. You can also make flyers and posters for the cause and post them on school bulletin boards. You can also create a purple pumpkin patch as a symbol of awareness.
The Epilepsy Foundation also encourages patients to share their personal stories to raise awareness of epilepsy. You can also share your experiences through the eJourney Community Blog.
Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month
Pancreatic cancer is an extremely serious disease, and early detection is critical to the cure of this devastating disease. According to the SEER Program of the National Cancer Institute, there will be 60,430 new cases of pancreatic cancer in the United States by 2021. In fact, the disease is on track to be the third leading cause of cancer-related death by that year, and the second-leading cause by 2030. Pancreatic cancer awareness is an important part of the fight against this disease, and November is the time to make your voice heard.
The disease is extremely dangerous, with a five-year survival rate of only seven percent. Symptoms include loss of appetite, weight loss, and nausea. People with this disease often struggle to pay for their medical bills. Unfortunately, research funding for pancreatic cancer is minimal. But thanks to organizations like Project Purple, it is possible to raise funds to find a cure for this devastating disease.
Pancan is joining 75 other organizations to promote awareness about World Pancreatic Cancer Day on Nov. 15. The organization is encouraging people to wear purple on that day and post selfies with the hashtag #WPCD. Pancreatic cancer is the third most common cause of death from cancer worldwide, and is expected to be the second most common by the year 2020. While its survival rate is low, early diagnosis can greatly increase the chances of survival.
Election Day
Election Day is the day after the first Monday of November, and it’s the day of the general election in the United States. The polls will be open 6am to 9pm on Election Day. There will also be an early voting period from October 29 to November 6 of that year. During this period, voters may register to vote at the polling place of their choice.
In 1848, the first presidential election was held on a Tuesday, as it was the first day that would be convenient for travel. While this time was more convenient, it also coincided with harvest season and harsh winter weather. As a result, it was determined that election day should fall in November.
Election day in November is often held in the first Monday of the month, and many states choose this day for several reasons. Despite the cost-saving benefits of holding elections on a Tuesday, many people say it decreases voter turnout. Many states allow early voting, and some even allow voters to vote by mail.
The Democratic Party has been lobbying to make Election Day a national holiday for many years. In 2005, Rep. John Conyers introduced the Democracy Day Act, arguing that this would increase voter turnout and civic awareness. Although it failed to pass the House, it has already been co-sponsored by 110 members of Congress.
