The Newroz holiday is a Kurdish national holiday and the first day of spring. It is associate with the Kurdish uprising against oppression and with the revival of nature. It is also a symbol of new life and freedom. Kurds celebrate the Newroz holiday outdoors, in colorful Kurdish clothing.

In the past, Nowruz was only a cultural and religious holiday, but has now taken on a more national character among Kurds. The holiday has also become a symbolic reminder of the Kurdish thirst for freedom and independence. In Iran, the Iranian government banned the Chaharshanbe Suri bonfires, but later backed down. Today, Nowruz is a popular celebration of rebirth, and many Kurds celebrate it with a large gathering of family, friends, and community.

In addition to visiting graves, children also celebrate the New Year. Children don’t have to go to school or work on Nowruz, and they enjoy gifts and games. They also visit the graves of their love ones, which means they have an opportunity to honor their dead.
