Hazrat Sayed Shah Abdul Lat If Imam Bari Sarkar was born in a small village near Chakwal. He used to meditate while a waterfall was falling on his head. Later, he moved to Lalan Potun and lived with a Syed family.

The shrine of Hazrat Sayed Shah Abdul Latiff Imam Bari Sarkar in Islamabad is one of the most important sites for followers of Silsila Qadria. This Sufi saint, also known as the Bari Imam Bari, was born in 1617 and died in 1705. He is considered to be the leader of the earth and one of the most revered Sufi saints in the world.
Hazrat Bari Imam’s shrine is surrounded by a huge golden gate and segregated paths to the main building. It is visited by people from every social class and background, but the majority of them are from the poorest strata of society. Hundreds of people converge here every day for prayers and devotion.
The Bari Imam’s life was dedicated to spiritual practice, and he spent 12 years in a cave in the Margalla Hills. The Bari Imam’s shrine was built by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, but has been rebuilt and redecorated several times. In 2005, a suicide attack at the shrine killed twenty people. The shrine is currently undergoing a massive restoration and redecoration.

The shrine is most beautiful at night when the shimmering lights shine and the sounds of qawalis and malangs fill the air. Even today, women still come to pay respect. They recite verses of the Holy Quran, look at the grave from a glass window, and pray to Allah.

The urs of this saint is becoming more popular every year. Thousands of devotees gather at Nurpur Shahan every year to pay respect to the saint. A shrine has been built at his gravesite to honor him. It is maintained by the government.
