Pakistani poet, teacher, and civil servant Parveen Shakir was most famous for her distinctive feminine voice in Urdu literature. She was also known for her consistent use of the feminine gender for the word “lover.” She was a prominent figure in the world of women in poetry. Her poems are highly regarded, and many of her poems are still read today.

Parvin Shakir

Pakistani poet, teacher and civil servant, Parveen Shakir PP is widely regarded for her distinctive feminine voice in Urdu literature. Her works were noted for consistently using the feminine gender to write the word “lover.” Parvin Shakir died in Pakistan on April 8, 2016. She is best known for her verses on love and marriage.

Parvin Shakir was born in Karachi on November 24, 1952. She began writing poetry at an early age and went on to pass her matriculation from Rizvia Girls School. Later she took her BA from Sir Syed Girls College. She then went on to get her MA in linguistics. After earning her MA, Parvin Shakir joined the Abdullah Girls College in Karachi as a teacher.

Parvin was self-confident and had overcome many trials and tribulations in her life. She published four poetry collections over a period of 18 years. Her last collection was titled Maah-e-Tamaam. She received various awards and accolades for her works. In 1985, she received the Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Award for poetry and in 1986, the Faiz Ahmed Faiz International Award. She also received the Pride of Performance Award in 1994.

Parvin Shakir was a renowned female poet from Pakistan. She died in a tragic car accident in 1994. She was 42 years old at the time. Her life was full of tragedy and poetry. She will always be remembered as one of Pakistan’s most famous female poets. She was a role model for women and Pakistani culture.

Parvin Shakir was an Urdu poet who brought a feminine voice to Urdu literature. Her poems portray women as more than just beautiful bodies. Her female characters are brains as well.
