Clock tower Karachi is a neo-Gothic structure and a prominent landmark in the city’s central area. Located at the termini of two important roads, it was constructed during the Victorian era. Today, the tower is a popular tourist attraction and a must-see landmark.

Merewether Clock Tower

The Merewether Clock Tower in Karachi is a neo-Gothic clocktower built in the Victorian era. It is a prominent landmark in the city’s central business district. The clock tower is situated at the intersection of two major roads in the city.

The tower is marked by a yellow traingle and is one of the most well known landmarks in Karachi. It is one of the architectural treasures of Pakistan and an important landmark for visitors. Built in 1884, the tower was handed over to the Karachi Municipality in 1892. The photo to the right shows the tower in its early years.

The Merewether Clock Tower is 102 feet high and stands on a 44-foot square platform. It features clocks that are prominently displayed on all four sides. Clocks on the Merewether Clock Tower have seven-foot diameters. The tower is protected by protective iron fencing.

The Merewether Clock Tower is one of the city’s iconic structures. It was raised by public subscription as a memorial to the late Sir William L. Merewether, who was a prominent businessman in Karachi. The clock tower was built in the Gothic Revival style popular in Victorian England. Its Eleanor cross architecture is another notable feature.

Eleanor Crosses

The Eleanor Cross is a symbol of England which was the name of a series of twelve stone monuments that were constructed between 1291 and 1494. In Pakistan, these monuments are also known as clock towers and can be found in many cities. They are reminiscent of the famous English monuments, but in a completely different style.

Eleanor was one of the first queens of Edward I. She was only ten years old when she left Spain and travelled to England to marry the future king. The statues are not original, but they are beautiful and a tribute to the first lady of England.

The Merewether Clock Tower, built in 1884, is a symbol of the British Raj and is an architectural wonder. The design of the tower is reminiscent of the Eleanor Cross, and it is fashioned of local Gizri sandstone. It also has a Star of David and delicate stonework.

The tower is located in one of the most crowded parts of Karachi, and is often crowded throughout the day. This has led to overcrowding and a decline in maintenance. Despite this, however, it is still a popular bus stop and is a popular place for people to catch a bus.

The Merewether Tower, a Victorian architectural masterpiece, is a beautiful landmark that greets people arriving by sea. Built in memory of Sir William Merewether, the tower stands today near the Jinnah Bridge. A late nineteenth-century ceramic plaque commemorates this historical landmark.

Chaukhandi tombs

The Chaukhandi tombs form an early Islamic cemetery, and are found 29 km east of Karachi. They are known for their intricate sandstone carvings. If you are in the area, it’s worth a visit, especially if you’re interested in Islamic history.

The Chaukhandi tombs are a graveyard of the Saloch clan, and they span over two square miles. While the tombs themselves have no dated inscriptions, they are characterized by intricate stone carvings and pyramid-like forms. The carved pillar canopies were originally used to hold water-carving tools and other items, and today they represent a family graveyard.

The tombs contain beautiful carvings, and the female tomb is decorated with ornaments. The male tombs contain a horseman holding his arms and a shield and sword. Another tomb, called the Jam Nizamuddin II tomb, is decorated with geometric and floral medallions. It is comparable to the Isa Khan Tarkhan the Younger mausoleum on Makli Hill.

The Chaukhandi tombs are one of the most beautiful sites in Karachi. They have been a popular attraction for tourists for centuries. You can also visit the Empress Market, which was built in 1884 and 1889 to honor Queen Victoria. This market also features antiques and spices.

Another place worth visiting in Karachi is the Hyderi Market. Located in the North Nazimabad area of Karachi, this large market offers many shopping options. Several shops, restaurants, and beauty parlors are located within the mall. There is also a play area for children and jogging parks.

Nearby, you can visit the St. Patrick’s Cathedral, which is the seat of the Roman Catholic bishop of Karachi. It is located on Shahra-e-Iraq, a former Clarke Street. Originally built in 1881, the cathedral is now occupied by the Catholic Archdiocese.
