August is the eighth month of the year, according to the Gregorian and Julian calendars. It is also the fifth of the seven months that have 31 days. This month marks a variety of holidays and celebrations. Some of these special events include Women’s Equality Day and National Sports Day. To celebrate these holidays and celebrations, make sure to plan a fun day or weekend outing!
National Immunization Awareness Month
National Immunization Awareness Month is an important time of the year to remind parents about the importance of getting their children vaccinated. The importance of routine vaccinations cannot be overstated, as children are exposed to thousands of germs each day. Children who receive their recommended immunizations on time can avoid contracting life-threatening diseases. Many children have missed their routine well child visits in the past two years, so now is a great time to get your child up to date.
National Immunization Awareness Month in August is a great time to talk about vaccinations and the importance of getting them as early as possible. The CDC reports that thousands of children and adults contract diseases each year that could have been prevented with vaccines. While these illnesses may not be visible, they can be prevented through vaccination.
In addition to raising awareness about the importance of getting vaccinations, this month also offers an opportunity to share resources with your audience. The #HowIRecommend video series, for example, focuses on the role vaccines play in public health. It also features short videos featuring health care professionals answering frequently asked questions. Vaccine graphics are available in various sizes and formats for use in newsletters and social media.
The CDC and the Public Health Foundation have developed an informational digital communication toolkit that can be used to spread the message about vaccines. These materials can be used on social media sites or on your website. It also includes a hashtag that can be used to engage with other healthcare professionals. The CDC also offers two social media tools for use during NIAM.
Women’s Equality Day
Every year on August 26, the United States observes National Women’s Equality Day, a celebration of women’s advancements toward equality. It was the passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution that gave women the right to vote, but many women still had to fight to get that right. The 1970 Women’s Strike for Equality was an example of the fight for equal rights in the United States.
The National Organization for Women called for a nationwide strike on August 26, 1970, as a way to celebrate women’s equality. This event was an opportunity for women to highlight inequalities in education and pay. It also called for the construction of more child care centers for women. Hundreds of thousands of women marched across the country in support of the cause. In New York City, a number of women even took over the Statue of Liberty!
The event raises funds for organizations working to help women in society. Women’s organizations also host events where notable women speak about their experiences. Oftentimes, these events include a hashtag that encourages online discussions about the challenges faced by females. For example, one in five women report being physically abused by their partners. The gender gap is so large that it will take 108 years before gender equality is achieved.
Women’s Equality Day in August commemorates the day millions of women in the United States gained the right to vote. However, women of color would have to wait decades before they had the same right. The 19th Amendment was passed into law 40 years later, but it still did not eliminate racism, sexism, and violence against women.
Small Industry Day
Every year on August 30, India celebrates National Small Industry Day to recognize the contribution of small-scale industries to the growth and development of the country. This day also promotes the creation of new businesses and job opportunities in small-scale industries. In 2000, the government launched a comprehensive policy framework to promote small-scale industries. Today, over 6.3 crore SSIs are registered in India, contributing 45% of the country’s total exports. These industries are a vital part of the country’s economy.
To promote small businesses and provide jobs for unemployed citizens, the Government of India declared August 30 as National Small Industry Day. This day is also an opportunity for state and central governments to encourage and support small-scale industries. Today, India’s small-scale industry sector contributes 40% of the country’s gross industrial value.
Small industry is an integral part of the value chain of the country’s economy. It creates more jobs, supports economic growth, and contributes to the social and environmental well-being of the nation. The government also launches new small businesses to help boost the economy. In addition, nearly half of all goods exported from India are manufactured by SMEs. This gives a significant boost to the country’s economy.
The Government of India has taken steps to support small-scale industries by launching a comprehensive policy package aimed at addressing problems related to technology, infrastructure, and payment hassles. On 30 August 2000, the government of India designated August 30 as Small Industry Day. Since then, the day has grown into a national event, which includes a convention of SSIs.
The goal of Small Industry Day is to promote small-scale industries and the people who own them. Typically, small-scale industries are considered cottage industries or small-scale enterprises, producing products that can be consumed by consumers, sold in retail stores, or made into parts for large industries.
National Sports Day
Every year, India celebrates National Sports Day on 29th August. It commemorates the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, the legendary hockey player, who won the first hat-trick of Olympic gold medals for India. Dhyan Chand started his career playing hockey in the regimental team of the British Indian Army. The legendary player often practised hockey at night under the moonlight and was dedicated to his craft.
To mark the occasion, the Prime Minister of India has greeted the people and paid tribute to hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary. The Prime Minister also tweeted that recent years have been great for sports in India, and he hoped that this trend would continue. In recent years, the Indian government has launched a number of sports-related schemes to promote the growth of sport in the country. In addition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has unveiled a campaign called Khelo India, which aims to promote sports and physical fitness in India.
A day dedicated to sports in India has many benefits. Instilling a reverence for sports in young children is a great way to promote healthy living, while also educating them about the world of sports. In 2012, the government officially designated 29th August as National Sports Day. It was celebrated with great fanfare in the first couple of years, with the FICCI organizing sports events all over the country.
The October month is the most active time for National Sports Day. Fans gather to support their favorite sports events and watch the athletes compete against each other. In golf, players hit the links to get a few more holes in before the snow falls. In basketball, hoopsters get ready for the upcoming season. In baseball, the baseball bat is fired up and the batter aims for the bleachers and the bases.
National Back to School Month
Back to school season is quickly approaching and most school districts will begin classes the last week of August or the first week of September. That’s why August is designated as National Back to School Month. The goal of this month is to help students get ready for the new school year and have the supplies they need to succeed. Millions of dollars are spent each year on school supplies.
Besides purchasing school supplies, Back to School Month also serves as a time to teach children about safety in the classroom and on the street. Children should stay focused and avoid distractions while walking to and from school, particularly during crosswalks. They should also use safety equipment like bike helmets and backpacks. In addition to that, parents should encourage early bedtimes and more reading and less screen time.
If you can’t volunteer, but still want to help children and teachers, consider donating to educational charities. There are a variety of charitable organizations that support educators and students, such as Junior Achievement, which focuses on financial literacy and self-sufficiency. There are hundreds of local chapters of this nonprofit in the United States.
Depending on where you live, the first day of school can be as early as the first day of August. For some states, this can be as late as the last week of July. Others, like New York City, choose to start school earlier than August. If you’re a parent, you can give your child a treat in honor of their new school year.
