Khari Sharif, located just eight kilometres from Mirpur city in Azad Kashmir, is home to the Shrine of Sufi Saints. One such Sufi saint is Mian Muhammad Bakhsh, who wrote the famous tale of Saiful Malook, the prince who fell in love with a fairy in a dream. This tale chronicles the prince’s spiritual journey and the lessons he learns.

Another Sufi poet is Shah Mansur, who wrote poetry in the Panjabi dialect using Arabic and Persian words. Some of his works include Sohni Meheinval, Tuhfah-e Miran, Shireen Farhad, and Gulzar-e Faqir.

According to the 1988 census, Khari was home to 9,632 people. In ancient times, the town was ruled by Sohlan Rajput families. Some of the most notable political figures from pre-partition Khari history include Jagirdar Raja Alla Dad Khan of Lehri and Zaildar Raja Sajjawal Khan of Mehmunpur.

Samwaal Sharif

The town of Khari Sharif is located in the Mirpur district of Azad Kashmir and is about 8 km away from the city of Mirpur. It is famous for its Sufi shrine. It is also home to Mian Muhammad Bakhsh, who wrote the famous tale Sayful Muluk.

Mian Mohammad Bakhsh RA

The poetry of Mian Muhammad Bakhsh is deep and relevant, and the meaning behind it is simply magic. His poetry ponders on the concepts of creation, existence, origin, and stigmatization, and it aims to find answers to some of life’s most fundamental questions.

Mian Muhammad Bakhsh was a Sufi saint and poet who contributed immensely to the Sufi Culture. In his poetry, he discussed many of the realities of life and taught many of the virtues that people should follow. His works include the Saiful Muluk book of poetry and the romance tragedy Mirza Sahiban. His ancestors originated from the District Gujrat, and they later settled in the Mirpur District.

Din Muhammad

Mian Muhammad Bukhsh is the fourth generation spiritual descendant of Damriyan Wali Sarkar, who is buried in the Khari Sharif. His father was Din Muhammad and his brother was Mian Shamsuddin. They had three sons, including Mian Muhammad Bukhsh. The Bukhsh family is part of the Gujjar tribe. The Gujjars are an ethnic group that spread across India and Pakistan.

Mian Muhammad Bakhsh was born in Chak Thakra village in Khari in 1839. His father, Miyan Din Muhammad, was a sajjadah nasheen. He studied Hadith in the madressah of Hafiz Muhammad Ali at Samwal Sharif. His education was largely in Farsi. He was particularly fond of Youuf Zuleikha of Abdur Rehman Jami and was a follower of Pir Ghulam Muhammad.

The Mian Mohammad Bakhsh shrine is located in the area. This writer wrote a famous folklore called Saiful Malook, a tale about a prince who falls in love with a fairy and discovers religious lessons on the way. It’s one of the most famous novels in AJ&K. Today, the town has a committee to commemorate the writer. The head of the committee is Chaudhry Karamat Khari.

Choudhry Rukhsar

One of the most famous political families in Khari Sharif is Choudhry Noor Hussain. The current head of the family is Br. Sultan Mehmood Choudhry, a former Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The city is home to a number of schools. There are primary, intermediate, and secondary schools, as well as a college for training future teachers. The town is also known for its military history. In ancient times, the area was ruled by the Sohlan Rajput family. It has produced several leaders, including the former Governor of Punjab, Lieutenant General Raja Saroop Khan.

The constituency of LA-4, Khari Sharif, is in the Mirpur district. It is represented by Chaudhry Arshad Hussain, who is a member of the PTI. Its runner-up candidate is Onia Rukhsar.
