Microsoft One Note is a free note-taking app that stores information such as text, pictures, tables and links. Plus it enables you to write or draw with a stylus pen.
It also permits scanning handwritten notes and converting them into typed text, making this feature ideal for employees who like taking notes on paper but prefer searching through them electronically.
OneNote is a cloud-based note-taking application
OneNote is a cloud-based note-taking application designed to organize your notes and make them accessible. It combines the power of a word processor with the convenience of digital notebooks. OneNote has several features, such as its frame interface which enables you to reposition text groups on pages in different ways for an improved writing environment.
Users of OneNote can add audio and video recordings to their notes, making it simple to capture meetings or class activities. In addition to text, users are able to incorporate images, tables, and more. Plus, OneNote boasts a powerful search feature which quickly locates any content stored within its notebooks.
OneNote’s multi-device support is another key benefit, enabling users to synchronize content across various devices and platforms. This means you can keep your notes organized on a computer at work, sync them to your tablet at home, or access them while traveling.
Furthermore, OneNote is password-protected to safeguard business data against hackers and other threats. The application also utilizes the same security features found in other Microsoft products.
Teachers use OneNote to plan lesson activities, add visuals and audio recordings, and store supplemental materials in a searchable digital notebook. They can share their notebooks with students or staff as needed, updating content as needed. This gives them the freedom to customize lessons according to both their requirements and students’ preferences.
It has a pen-focused view
Microsoft has introduced a pen-focused view for One Note on Windows that allows users to draw with their Surface stylus, Microsoft claiming this will increase productivity levels.
OneNote’s pen-focused view disables all navigation panes, ribbons and tabs while you create notes, so that you can focus on your idea without distraction. It also comes with a customized pen toolbar with various drawing tools like Undo/redo, Text mode, Lasso and Eraser for effortless drawing.
Additionally, OneNote supports voice and drawing dictation support. Simply record yourself saying “delete that,” and the program will recognize it so your notes are synced with what was dictated.
Other features include a voice-enabled immersive reader that magnifies text onscreen and lets users hear it read aloud, as well as an illustrated dictionary featuring digitally created images of words.
One Note has also added the ability to sort pages by date created, date modified and alphabetically. Furthermore, it gains a sharing feature as well as the capability of inserting pictures from the camera app.
The new design update for OneNote brings it closer in line with Windows 11’s overall aesthetic. All navigation panes, full-screen mode, page list, section tabs and notebook dropdown have rounded edges now. Furthermore, the app window features a Mica effect that changes color based on what’s in the background.
In addition to design improvements, Microsoft is working on adding more specialized OneNote features like ink-to-text conversion and digital ink replay. It will also enhance the app’s syncing and backup capabilities as well as make it simpler for team members to collaborate on notes. While no timeline has been given yet for these updates, expect them soon.
One Note has a search feature
OneNote’s search feature is one of its standout benefits, enabling you to locate notes quickly based on content, location or date. Additionally, you can filter results using keywords and tags for even faster note-taking efficiency.
OneNote is a Microsoft app available for Windows, macOS and iOS that can be used independently or as part of your Microsoft Office suite. It offers various features like creating/editing notes, searching for notes, tagging notes and more to suit any need.
The application organizes its notes into notebooks, sections and pages for an intuitive structure that makes finding content simple.
However, it can be tedious to trawl through multiple notebooks and pages when looking for something specific. That is why OneNote provides a convenient feature like creating multiple window instances (as shown in Figure 18.2) to make this task simpler.
At first, searches in OneNote begin by finding notes across all open notebooks and then narrow the scope as needed. To alter this default search scope, select Change Search Scope from the task pane.
Furthermore, OneNote’s Optical Character Recognition (OCR) feature allows for the search of text within images. This function is particularly beneficial if the desired information is stored in image files or web clips that have been scanned with OCR software.
OneNote’s unique ability to create notes through audio and video recordings is an impressive feature. Not only can you sync text, audio and video in one note, but you can also embed online videos within the document by changing its speed and duration accordingly.
It has a video player
Microsoft One Note is an office productivity application designed to help you take notes and organize files. It also has a video player built-in, so you can watch videos directly within the program.
You can use OneNote to embed YouTube videos within notebooks. However, in order to insert them correctly, you’ll need to convert the online videos into an mp4 file first.
To add a YouTube mp4 file into OneNote, navigate to the file and click “OK.” You will then be asked to add it as an object attachment.
Most audio and video files that are incompatible with OneNote will be inserted as object attachments, meaning they will open within the external application when double-clicked. To play a fully compatible audio or video file such as a WMV video or WMA audio file, select it, then click on the “Playback” contextual tab located on the Ribbon.
The Playback button group includes buttons for “Play,” “Pause,” and to rewind or fast forward the file. It also displays a field that indicates how long the file is.
One unique feature of the Playback button group is that it can remember where you took notes during recording or playback of an audio file. You can toggle this on or off to highlight those notes when they appear in the list.
OneNote’s video player is lightweight and supports a variety of media formats, such as Windows Media files and MP3 files. Furthermore, it’s very user-friendly with several keyboard shortcuts for controlling playback and recording of multimedia files.
Microsoft One Note has a template feature
OneNote adapts to your notetaking style, allowing you to write in whatever format suits best. Furthermore, it’s compatible with computers, tablets, Macbooks and Android phones so that you can take notes wherever life takes you.
Templates are useful for quickly and aesthetically pleasingly creating new pages in your notebook. Not only do they give the pages a uniform look, attractive background, and consistent layout – you can even apply them automatically across all new pages within an area!
Microsoft One Note provides several pre-built templates to save you time and keep your notes organized. You can access them via the Insert > Page Templates menu.
Some can be accessed directly from the page, while others require clicking through to a sidebar. You’ll find academic, blank, business, planners and decorative templates alike.
Create your own templates or modify an existing one to meet your requirements. For instance, if you need to manage weekly assignments, using a weekly calendar template is beneficial.
Another way to organize your notes is with tags. Tags are straightforward symbols that categorize content on a page and can also be helpful when searching for specific notes or tasks.
If you need to keep track of time for an important project, OneNote’s calendar templates can be very helpful. With them, you can block off time for certain tasks, view what needs doing when, and link the tasks directly to other pages in OneNote.
Another way to manage your files is the archive feature in OneNote. This feature helps keep everything organized and searchable for old documents and folders with ease.
